Cafe Conversations

Saturday night I was taking the trash out about an hour before we closed. To get to the backdoor I have to go through the entire length of the bookstore from the cafe. I was passing approaching the information desk and saw two older "gentlemen" standing looking like they needed help so I started to walk towards them when one looked at the other and "whispered" in that way that old men have that is louder than I normally talk to the other guy

Don't ask him, he has a trash can. . .he probably can't even read.

WTF? Oh yes he actually said that OUT LOUD! Never fear though, I was not about to let him get away with it completely so I kept walking past them and in the same "whisper" I said

Yeah, but I can still HEAR!

It was so satisfying watching them slink out.

Ha! Janna & I were wondering what your cafe conversation this week would be about.
This one is priceless!
That the American public still thinks that people who work in retail are somehow beneath them/uneducated pisses me off.
I can't tell you how many times some pissed off "guest" at the Target return desk would tell me either "you could understand this if you had gone to college" -- which I had, thank you very much -- or "why don't you get a real job?" Honey, it doesn't get any more "real" than retail...

By the way, B&N just sent me a coupon for a free tall latte. I'm tempted to drive all the way to Ohio just to redeem it with you and be a horrific customer so I might show up in your Wednesday Cafe Conversations...
Just Kidding! I'll go abuse my local baristas...
(again with the kidding... oh well, I'm gonna go use my college education to print sales signs...)
