Etiquette

Gumby recently posted a comment asking "tell me... is it ever appropriate for one customer (like, say, me) to chide another for being rude? I almost did a couple of weeks ago at our Whole Foods, but I was afraid of being attacked."
Hmm, good question Gumby. I say go right ahead and let a jerk know they are being a jerk. Maybe it will help reduce their future jerkiness if they know they won't get away with it. I would caution getting the employee involved though. I have had people say to me (loudly) "Is that person always a jerk?" or "how do you deal with assholes like that?" While I would love to respond candidly that I consume mass quantities of Valium and vodka and then blog about what retards they are I am forced to say "Oh, it isn't that bad, really. . ." Just remember, the poor employee will probably have to deal with that asshole again so they are just trying to not make it worse (or get into trouble).

Interesting...Here's what happened to me. I was grocery shopping, this young mother and her dad were yapping and wandering away from the kiddie in their pack - well the kiddie was putting his cute little fingers through the celophane covering the meat in said meat department. Well, I watched little Guido laughingly do his damage, and finally young mother was coming back to collect her little vandal, I caught her eye and said he's been putting his fingers through the wrappers, she said F-you B...and her daddly told her to "something unintelligible in spanish", next time I saw them in the store grandpa has junior by the hand and little mommy glared at me harshly. I really wanted to throttle little mamma, but sadly it would have been a very unhappy way for me to spend my time - arrested for assulting a rude little underage mexican in a grocery store.
This is yet one more person that
should thank their lucky stars that I don't carry a gun.
I am all for embarassing people into good manners. How else do they learn? And as you said, better another customer than the store employee.
OH no Janna! Don't get into any fistfights over this. . .well, not until you've taken some kick boxing classes and can really whoop some ass!
You are right Michael, besides. . .isn't that how the rest of the world learned. . .when we were kids?
I really think it's time for a nationwide... no, worldwide... campaign... be watching my blog for details...
Oh how subversive. . .I just can't wait.
