Russian or Hooker
You may remember that D. and I used to play a very politically incorrect game of Russian or Hooker where we tried to decide if some questionably dressed and coiffed women were. . .well. . .Russian or hookers. Since moving to Columbus I haven't had a chance to play the game because there isn't a large Russian immigrant population here like there was in Cleveland. Well last night changed all that. This couple came in and I would have placed a large sum of money on the fact that the woman was a hooker. I mean she had the fishnets and the six inch heels and the micro-mini skirt in a shiny fabric, the bleached and teased hair, the almost clown like make-up, and that "I'm for sale" kind of walk. The only thing that I couldn't figure out is why her "date" would bring her to a book store and flip through magazines when time was money. Eventually he came up and ordered two hot teas for them in a very thick Russian accent and it made sense.
The hard part was trying to explain the game to two very sheltered kids who had no idea what so ever of what I was talking about. That was when I realized Russian or Hooker is a game to only be played by the select few.

Oh man, I miss you Vinnie G.! I haven't played R or H since I left Cleveland - almost forgot about it! Sometimes we play "what does Santa Monica Blvd. smell like today - urine or tacos?!" but it's not the same. Come visit soon.
Love it.
Could expand to other games...Not enough coffee yet... Problem is kids aren't even taught to how spell anymore, and they are taught that sentence structure is sufficient so long as the other person can understand what you are communicating. I know, OT, but here's one more.
Yesterday, I was reading a blog and a commenter said she took grammar in college. WHO THE FUCK has to take grammar in college???? I mean, didn't YOU have to diagram sentences as a kid? WTF is going on there? And you expect them to even know what a Russian is? They probably know what a hooker is though.
I'm actually the only person I know that diagrammed sentences in high school. I once posted on a message board a diagrammed sentence that I made in Photoshop that read "The next logical thing to do is diagram a sentence" after much debate was going on and that lead to the pointing out of grammatical errors as a personal attack as often happens on message boards. No one understood it. Sometimes I guess you can be too clever for your own good. Or, at least I can.
And, correction: they know what a "ho" is, but likely don't know that it's short for "hooker."
