Back in Columbus

Ah, it is good to be back in Columbus after a quick weekend trip back to Cleveland. It was really good to see D. again in person after she has been in L.A. for almost two years now (and me being in Columbus for almost a year now). What do friends who haven't seen each other in years do? Go out to eat of course, so we did brunch at Lucky's Cafe in Tremont. Neither of us have ever been there before but Matt recommended it over Johnny Mangoes so we thought what the heck! Why not?
Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 9-2 and just being there once I have to tell you to get there before noon. We got there about 11:40 and just beat the line that went from the register at the front of the store to the kitchen doors at the very rear of the store. The place is set up like a coffee shop and you get in line and order your drinks and your meal from the barista who transfers your order to the kitchen. From there you get a number and sit down and wait for your brunch order to come out of the kitchen. All three of us (Chris went too to finally meet D.) had the breakfast burrito and enjoyed it to different degrees. The reactions went from WOW to meh. I think all three us did agree that there was way too much sauce on the burrito (I think it was a mole) but I really enjoyed it especially with some of the homemade chili sauce poured on it. While we didn't try anything else I can say that every plate coming out of the kitchen was loaded to the rim with food and all of it looked delicious!

Another Cleveland treat that we indulged in was East Coast Original Custard which is only a short walk from where D. and I grew up. On Saturday night D., Matt, Ellen, Chris, and I all played hooky from D.'s brother's graduation party to partake of some of East Coast's custard. Damn! I forgot just how good that stuff is. Nobody makes a chocolate malt like they do! I have to say, East Coast is one of the few things I miss about Cleveland. If only there was some way to ship some of it down here on a regular basis. Unfortunately we didn't have any time to hit #1 Pho while in town but I have promised to take Chris there so he can experience the best spring rolls ever.

Oh, and the picture is of me, Matt, D., and Ellen in front of the ultimate Parma Heights landmark. . .The Yorktown Lanes bowling alley.
